Alexander who was originally from Scotland, emigrated to Queensland 1883 and then to Auckland, NZ about 1905. He was a carpenter/joiner by trade and built quite a few houses in the Mount Eden area. My family say that this store was built by him. The shop became known as Janet Buchanan's grocery shop when she remarried. Her 1st husband James Hedley died when he fell of a ladder while doing extensions at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel. David Alexander Hedley was one of Janet and James 6 children. But owner needed to be able to build and live on the site - so we all got a win/win out of it.
