I grew up in the house and my father was told by the seller, the original purchaser (a doctor who had his surgery in the house). It has recently been torn down to make way for a retirement village. Te Mira Hau. Very saddened by the Councils inaction in saving the iconic building and also saddened at the sale of it by the niece and nephew. In my hometown of Foxton in Horowhenua/Manawatu we have a full size working windmill called De Molen that grinds flour and has a bakery attached. Fundraising set up for contributions towards buying or relocating the mill was unsuccessful, Auckland City Council who had the letter from Joseph Partington on file promising them the mill didn't lodge a contest to the probate proceedings, and there were no protests when the mill was finally pulled down.
