I suppose that was built up some time between the 1850s to 1900? Would that been to accommodate the railway? In these photos you see what was called The Strand (going past the hostel) but this is now also called Beach Road -- then up the hill (Gittos Street, now Parnell Rise), then they travelled through Parnell at the top towards Newmarket.<br /><br />The railway bridge is still there. First one was completed in the 1860s.
