Regrettably, the Cyclopedia of NZ was not always entirely accurate. I have colleced George Dixon bottles and family history for over 35 years. Some of my research appears here: http://www.wellingtonantiquebottles.org.nz/companies/gdixon.shtml George Dixon was born 29th April 1848. Now I've realised that it's best to shake the bloomin' stuff before opening the cap ... ;-)Timespannerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11990716041045862669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4466403878576837579.post-63203632754273384302009-12-27T21:35:25.796+13:002009-12-27T21:35:25.796+13:00'Medicinal purposes' was a good reason to ...'Medicinal purposes' was a good reason to gargle the old rot gut lol.
Hmmm ginger beer , yum :)Jaynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02851305238478213940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4466403878576837579.post-78943576259206750702009-12-27T20:03:35.273+13:002009-12-27T20:03:35.273+13:00The ginger beer will see you right, Andrew, I'...The ginger beer will see you right, Andrew, I'm sure of it. Interesting point you have there about the typhoid. Incidences here seemed to pick up from the 1870s ... right when the temperance groups started to get into stride. Not saying there is a certain connection, but it's a damned intriguing coincidence.Timespannerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11990716041045862669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4466403878576837579.post-34251228403501558892009-12-27T19:52:10.838+13:002009-12-27T19:52:10.838+13:00Now I am wanting some ginger beer. Those who drank spirits and rot gut had a higher survival rate than tea totallers who drank water. The water drinkers would often get typhoid. Not sure if this would apply to NZ.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
