Pickled culture

During my recent visit to the Auckland War Memorial Museum, and in particular the Weird & Wonderful section,  I found that one phrase transcends most language boundaries (there are a lot of tourists at the museum any time one visits. It's like walking into a United Nations convention. Very cool, though).

"Oh, look! A Bart Simpson specimen!"

Out came the mobile phones, capturing the image of museum whimsy amidst the pickled species.

  1. I reckon the curators had a quiet bet and chuckle amongst themselves to see how many noticed the pickled Bart *snort*.

  4. ROTFLMAO! I've not seen the Bart before. Seems to be a quirky museum thing to put out of place things in exhibitions though. Canterbury museum have a very tiny supermarket trolley drawn in to the background in their Asian gallery for one thing...a few other bits and pieces around the place too...well did when i was working there.

  5. More of 'em, I say! Museums are cool places -- doing this just adds to them, I reckon, Sandy. Wish I'd seen that trolley when I passed through Canterbury Museum about three years or so ago.
