Pleading for the future of the former Mt Roskill Borough Council Municipal Building

Some news of great concern came through via the latest Puketapapa Local Board meeting on 31 January that a proposal may be made soon to Auckland Council that the 1957 former Mt Roskill Municipal Building be demolished. It was closed December 2011-January 2012 due to black mould found in the later additions. The Mt Roskill (Puketapapa) Historical Society are seeking public support to back their call, in support of the stand by the Local Board, that the original part of the building be retained, not demolished.

  1. I tried to post the following comment on the Blogsite, but I don't have membership of the appropriate accounts. Perhaps you might like to pass this comment on for me.

"This looks like it was styled along the art deco type buildings. Was it Architect designed and if so was the Architect famous. It might help if he was. Also I have for at least 10 years been trying to get Council to change the definition of Heritage to include some of the post heritage era buildings. This change could also be requested officially by the Local
Boards and get other Local Boards to support it."

Yes, Vivienne, the building was designed by Stephen Wright, who also designed the Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall and the memorial proper on May Road.
