A memorial under the Harbour Bridge

These are photos from and by my friend Bill Ellis.

There's a memorial at the Auckland Harbour Bridge, in memory of those workers who died in the course of the construction of the bridge.

TO THE MEMORY OF
THOSE MEN WHO LOST THEIR
LIVES ACCIDENTALLY DURING THE
CONSTRUCTION OF THE
AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE

JAMES NICHOL WILLIAMSON - AGED 48
CARPENTER 26.1.58
JAMES ALEX WESTERN - AGED 28
STEEL ERECTOR 7.2.59
JOHN JOSEPH PATRICK McCORMICK - AGED 46
CARPENTER 21.4.59

A small memorial, over which thousands unknowingly pass every single day of the year.

  1. Such a small memento of lives who probably are still sending ripples out into their families.
